Homemade Peanut Butter-Oatmeal Dog Biscuits

We’ve started teaching the dogs to stay out of the kitchen when we’re cooking, mainly for their safety - they get under our feet and we trip over them and there’s cursing and sometimes knives are involved and it’s just a bad situation.

But it was impossible to keep Humphrey and Frank out of the kitchen while I was making these dog cookies. Somehow, the second they smelled the peanut butter (which was, like, right away) they knew I was cooking for them.

These dog biscuits are ridiculously easy to make - seriously, it takes about 10 minutes to throw the dough together, knead it, and pinch off little ‘truffles’. And the dogs LOVE them. Some may wonder why one would go to the trouble of baking for dogs when most dogs will eat just about anything. It’s the same reason why you’d bake your own cookies over a package of Chips Ahoy!: cheap dog biscuits, like cheap human cookies, are full of lab-created polysyllabic fillers and gourmet biscuits can be ridiculously expensive and just as unhealthy. When you cook for yourself - or your pets, for that matter - you know exactly what’s going into the food. In this case, it’s just peanut butter, low-fat milk (homemade beef or chicken stock or even just plain water would work just as well), whole wheat flour, and oats. No additives, no preservatives, and no chicken by-product, which I won’t describe here because it will ruin your lunch.

Anyway, DOG BISCUITS!
